NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing early contenders for 5-star wing Kon Knueppel
Ohio State Buckeyes
Coach Chris Holtmann has been very good at building recruiting classes and 2024 isn’t going to be any different. They already landed four-star point guard John Mobley and three-star wing, Colin White. This is a team that’s going to lose Minnesota transfer wing Jamison Battle after next season and we’ll see what happens with incoming top-50 freshmen, Devin Royal and Scotty Middelton.
Shooting guard may be the biggest positional weakness for Ohio State, as we don’t know how good guards Bowen Hardman and Roddy Gayle Jr. are. If they break out and become staple pieces in the rotation, it’ll definitely affect the kind of role that Knueppel would have if he were to join.
Stanford Cardinal
The entire athletics program is in flux after the Pac-12 was raided by other leagues, leaving their conference home for the 2024-24 campaign unknown. That’s going to have an impact on their chances to land any kind of talent. So the hope is that the elite academic prestige is viewed as most impactful to Knueppel.
The good news is that it has worked in the past for prospects, including top-30 incoming freshman wing, Andrej Stojakovic. He’s going to be a big part of the future of the program since both Michael Jones and Spencer Jones will be leaving after next season. There wouldn’t be a question as to Knueppel’s role if he picks Stanford, he just wouldn’t know what league he’d be playing in.
