With forward Jerome Hunter out indefinitely with reported health issues, that leaves Zach Freemantle as the key returning piece from last season’s Sweet 16 roster. So there are a few newcomers, mostly from Conference USA, looking to have key roles.

In the backcourt enters McKnight, a 6’1 point guard from Western Kentucky. He’s a two-time all-conference playmaker, coming off averaging 16.5 ppg and 3.8 apg. He’s a dynamic scorer and capable defender and projects to be the starting lead guard. And joining him is Olivari, a 6’2 guard from Rice. He averaged 18.7 ppg and 5.9 rpg last season and shot over 36% from three-point range.

In the frontcourt is Osumane, a 6’10 big man from North Texas. He’s another former all-conference player, averaging 11.1 ppg and 6.0 rpg, and is a quality interior defender. Also in the frontcourt is Duncomb, a transfer from Indiana that adds more depth at the center position.

In order for Xavier to be an NCAA Tournament team, they need the transfers to play at a high level. It worked last season with Souley Boum, also from Conference USA. Can Coach Sean Miller make it work again?
