Southland Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
19. Shawn Glover
While Oral Roberts only spent two years in the Southland before bouncing back to the Summit League, those just happened to line up with Glover’s time with the program. A 6’7 wing from Dallas, he actually began his career at Utah in 2009, back when the Utes were still members of the Mountain West. He’d sit out a season then get on court for the Golden Eagles in 2012, starring for the next two seasons in the Southland.
He had very solid production as a redshirt junior, but we’re only looking at the last decade, meaning it’s just his final year that gets the focus. That’s alright, of course, because Glover averaged 21.3 points and 5.8 rebounds, with monster numbers in that final season. Oral Roberts finished 6th in the league and wasn’t exactly standing out but Glover certainly did, with numerous great performances, including a career-high 32 points against Northwestern State.
He was named First Team All-Southland and secured a place on the league’s All-Defense squad. Glover was the Southland’s top scorer, as his 703 points on the season was actually 14th in the nation. At the same time, he’d finish among the league leaders in blocks, accumulate a decent amount of steals, and would be one of the most efficient shooters in the conference. Oral Roberts only had a brief taste of the Southland nearly a decade ago, but Glover was a standout during that stretch.
