SWAC Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
21. Jawaun Daniels
Daniels is a 6’7 wing from Harlem who began his career at Odessa College, a junior college in western Texas. He caught the attention of D1 programs after two years there, landing at Prairie View A&M back in 2019. He’d end up redshirting his first year after playing in just three games and developed into an important piece for those Panthers after that.
In each of his two seasons, Daniels averaged 15.2 points per game with decent shooting and rebounding numbers. He made just under 43% of his shots outside the arc as a junior and set career-highs with 6.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists a game as a senior. During that junior year, he helped lead the Panthers to a blemished run through the SWAC and a regular season title, including back-to-back 30-point efforts in the tail end of the season, including a 36-point game against Mississippi Valley State during the 2021 SWAC Tournament.
While Daniels fell short of playing in the Big Dance, he showed tons of potential in those two full years with the Panthers, becoming a consistent scorer in the SWAC. He was First Team All-SWAC in his senior season, becoming a major factor with the program after leading the league in effective field goal percentage the year before. The bottom line is that Prairie View A&M won a ton of games during Daniels’ time on the court and this certainly helps him stand out.
