SWAC Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
18. LeAntwan Luckett
A 6’4 wing from Ridgeland, Mississippi, Luckett got his career started in his home state, joining Alcorn State back in 2012. He was a valuable member of Luther Riley’s program, though the Braves struggled throughout this time. Luckett put up great numbers in the SWAC before spending his senior year at Louisiana Tech.
He had good production as a freshman over a decade ago, but really stood out as a sophomore, averaging 16.0 points per game. He’d help lead the Braves to a 6th place finish in the SWAC, far exceeding their dreadful performance during his final season. Regardless of that, Luckett was very impactful, averaging 16.3 points and 3.4 rebounds with improved shooting numbers as a junior.
Luckett was actually named First Team All-SWAC for both of those seasons, even a junior year where Alcorn State finished just 6-26. He was among the top offensive players in the league in those latter two seasons, finishing with just under 500 total points in both years. Luckett shot the ball well, had decent numbers across the board, and far exceeded his on-court numbers that he’d have as a senior at Louisiana Tech, even though those Bulldogs would win 23 games.
