NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing top 12 teams for 5-star Meleek Thomas
Kansas Jayhawks
The Jayhawks’ starting point guard Dajaun Harris Jr. could be around for two more years, so there’s a chance that they don’t even need a star from the 2024 class. But they’ll need one from the 2025 class, whether they somehow land five-star target Dylan Harper in the next month or not. They’re a program on the level of Duke when it comes to prestige and has arguably the best active head coach in NCAA Basketball in Bill Self. Look for them to be a main contender for Thomas if they decide to focus on him.
Kansas State Wildcats
Kansas State doesn’t have the same brand and basketball history as rival Kansas but they do have positive momentum under Coach Jerome Tang after last season’s success. They can tell future recruits that they look like Markquis Nowell, who was an All-American and put up major stats last year. Assuming Tang is sticking around for a little bit, he and the Wildcats can offer Thomas a maximum role and not have to defer to others.
Kentucky Wildcats
The SEC juggernaut doesn’t have any commits in the 2024 class yet and Coach John Calipari has shown that it can take a while to build a roster. But this blue blood program will always be in the mix for five-star talent and current freshmen guards, DJ Wagner and Robert Dillingham, are certainly not going to be on the roster by the time Thomas arrives. The only question here is who would also be in the 2025 class for him to play with?
