NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing top 12 teams for 5-star Meleek Thomas
Miami Hurricanes
Next to Duke, it’s hard to look at a better program in the ACC right now than Miami. And that’s probably going to remain that way as long as Coach Jim Larranaga is there, who is coming up in age a bit. He has star guard Nijel Pack for two more years so replacing him in the backcourt is a must. The ideal scenario would be to land top-20 class of 2024 prospect Jalil Bethea and have him paired with Thomas in the backcourt a year later.
Michigan Wolverines
Coach Juwan Howard has always been after five-star talents, including in the next two classes. That includes some top prospects in the 2025 group, such as Darius Acuff, a local five-star talent that’s local. There’s a chance that both can play in the backcourt together but Thomas would have to be willing to play off the ball more. So one recruitment may affect how the other one goes here.
Pittsburgh Panthers
As the “hometown” option, the Panthers making the cut makes sense. And since they’re out of the bottom of the ACC basement and are coming off an NCAA Tournament appearance. They also have Thomas’ Lincoln Park teammate and current 2024 commit, Brandin Cummings, joining the program as well. He could be the focal point of the program and the hometown hero like Nelly Cummings was but Pittsburgh needs to show that last year wasn’t a fluke and that the program is back.
