5. Baylor Scheierman

Scheierman is a 6’6 wing from Aurora, Nebraska who’s had himself quite the college basketball journey already. The journey began in the Summit at South Dakota State, spending three years and becoming a major name for the Jackrabbits beginning back in 2019. He’d transfer away after his junior year but did plenty to showcase his elite talent beforehand.

Scheierman’s numbers were modest as a freshman, but he took on a major role in this program after the start of the pandemic. During his sophomore season, he averaged 15.4 points and 9.2 rebounds a game, while making 44% of his 3-pointers. In each of his three years in Brookings, the Jackrabbits won the regular season title in the Summit, though they finally reached the Big Dance in his junior year. Scheierman averaged 16.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game, made 47% of his 3-point shots, and put up 18 points in their NCAA Tournament loss to Providence in 2022.

He’d earn First Team All-Summit honors in those last two seasons, emerging as an elite shooter in the conference. For that impressive junior year, where South Dakota State won 30 games, Scheierman was named Player of the Year, leading the conference in rebounding and effective field goal percentage. After masterful play as a Jackrabbit, he’d transfer to Creighton and helped lead the Bluejays to the Elite Eight this past season, though his contributions in South Dakota won’t soon be forgotten.
