4. Douglas Wilson

A 6’7 power forward from Des Moines, Wilson began his college playing career at Kirkwood CC, a junior college in nearby Cedar Rapids. After two impressive years at the junior college level, he’d transfer to South Dakota State, joining the Jackrabbits in 2019. Suffice to say he’d waste little time endearing himself to the Jackrabbits.

In that first season in the Summit League, Wilson averaged 18.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game, filling a major role for the Jackrabbits. He’d lead the program to the Summit League regular season title, a feat they’d repeat in each of his three seasons. Wilson put up solid numbers in his three seasons, taking advantage of the bonus year from the pandemic. In his final campaign, the Jackrabbits won 30 games and finally advanced to the Big Dance, with Wilson scoring at least 21 in every game of the Summit League Tournament.

Wilson was the most accurate field goal shooter in the conference during his three-year career. He was named the league’s Player of the Year in his first season and Tournament MVP in his final, securing three All-Summit nominations as well. Wilson was a great offensive player who fit well into the Jackrabbits’ system and did what he needed to do in their frontcourt. He was one of the league’s best offensive rebounders and was even a member of the league’s All-Defense team in that final season.
