2. Max Abmas

Undoubtedly one of college basketball’s greatest athletes in recent years, Abmas is a 6’1 combo guard from Rockwall, Texas who rose to national attention for his time at Oral Roberts. He joined the Golden Eagles back in 2019 and would become one of the nation’s best offensive players across the next four seasons, helping Oral Roberts to significant on-court success as well.

After a very solid 14.4 points a game in his freshman year, he took an extreme leap forward as a sophomore. Not only did he average 24.5 points per game, making 43% of his 3-pointers, but he also led Oral Roberts on a historic postseason run, advancing to the Sweet Sixteen as a 15-seed. He had multiple 40-point games that season and scored at least 26 in the Golden Eagles’ two Tourney wins. In Abmas’s final two years, he averaged at least 21 points a game and helped Oral Roberts claim several victories, including a return trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2023.

Abmas was named Summit Player of the Year as both a sophomore and senior, leading the Golden Eagles to the Big Dance in both those years, and earned three straight First Team All-Summit honors. His scoring numbers have been astronomical, leading the entire nation in points per game during that second season. He was twice the Summit Tournament MVP, is the best free thrower shooter in recent memory in the league, and has already accumulated 2561 career points. A storybook career at Oral Roberts has ended, as he’ll spend his bonus year from the pandemic at Texas next season.
