Summit League Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
23. Zach Jackson
While Omaha hasn’t always had the best success in basketball, Jackson did his best to be remembered with the Mavericks. A 6’5 wing from Wichita, he arrived in Nebraska in 2015 and would depart four years later after starting most of the 126 games he’d play. Jackson developed into a major weapon for Omaha by the end of that career, especially in his senior year.
After minor contributions early, he was up to 10.8 points a game as a sophomore, and would far exceed that production as an upperclassman. Jackson would average right around 18 points per game in both his junior and senior seasons, boasting solid rebounding numbers as well. He led the Mavericks to a revival in his final year, as they’d win 21 games and finish 2nd in the Summit. Jackson even had a career-high 33 points in a win over Montana State.
Jackson secured First Team All-Summit honors after settling for the Second Team as a junior. The bottom line isn’t just that he was one of the conference’s best shooters and scorers, he led Omaha to what remains their best season at the D1 level. He was a major contributor for the Mavericks and certainly made an impact in the Summit League.
