Summit League Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
18. Paul Miller
A 6’4 wing from Waukesha, Wisconsin, Miller made his way to North Dakota State back in 2014, joining the program right when current coach David Richman took the top job. Miller became a valuable piece of the Bison’s backcourt across the next four seasons, with particularly impressive numbers by the end.
Not yet a full-time starter, he helped lead North Dakota State to a Summit League Tournament title as a freshman and had 13 points in their Tourney loss against Gonzaga. Miller took a huge jump as a sophomore and would average more than 15 points a game while hitting 41% of his 3-pointers. After similar numbers the next year, he stood out as a senior, averaging 19.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game. This included a career-high 36 points performance against rival South Dakota State, albeit in a down year for the Bison.
Miller’s solid play late in his career earned him First-Team All-Summit honors in those last two years. He had become one of the Summit’s best scorers and defensive rebounders by the end of his career and was very important to the success at North Dakota State. Miller’s contributions were valuable early during that conference success and his individual numbers spoke volumes to his own talent and ability in his final seasons.
