Small Forward/Wing

Starter – Andrew Rohde (30 mpg)

It’s hard to imagine the Cavaliers won’t use a 3-guard lineup this season given the addition of Andrew Rohde out of the transfer portal. He’s a 6-foot-6 prospect who’s shown he can operate in a variety of ways already and be a two-way presence after his debut season in the Summit League in 2022-23 with St. Thomas. He was the Summit League Rookie of the Year and a first-team All-Conference selection this past season after producing 17.1 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 3.6 apg, and 1.7 spg while shooting 44.8 percent from the floor and 32 percent from behind the arc.

Rohde is an intriguing prospect for UVA given his prowess on the offensive end of the floor. In his first college season, he finished second in the league in steals (52), fifth in assists (113), sixth in scoring (531 points) and sixth in PER (22.0). He’ll really look to up the ante as he joins the ACC in 2023-24.

Bench – Ryan Dunn (10 mpg), Elijah Gertrude

Ryan Dunn is another returner that should see some minutes off the bench for the Cavaliers. He’ll certainly stretch the floor at the 3-spot with his size at 6-foot-8 and ability to knock down shots on the perimeter after making his debut in 2022-23. He put up 2.6 ppg, 2.9 rpg and 1.1 bpg on 53.2 percent shooting from the floor. He could see some time at the power forward spot as well, given his knack for rebounding and protecting the rim. Gertrude should fill the void at the third spot at small forward/wing and should see some minutes in the early non-conference schedule.
