WAC Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
9. Qua Grant
A 6’1 point guard from DeSoto, Texas, Grant’s career began with three years at West Texas A&M before getting his D1 shot at Wichita State. He had minor contributions in that initial season and decided to transfer, landing at Sam Houston State in 2022 for his final season of eligibility. He picked a great landing spot and became a menace with the Bearkats in that lone campaign.
He would average 14.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game in a season where Sam Houston State won 26 games and finished 2nd in the WAC. Grant had 24 points in their conference tournament loss to Grand Canyon and would put 21 up at Santa Clara in the NIT. While the Bearkats fell short of the NCAA Tournament, they had a great season under Grant’s leadership.
Following the season he was named WAC Player of the Year, confirming that he chose a great destination for his final year of college ball. Grant not only led Sam Houston State to a successful year but was among the conference’s leaders in points, assists, and steals, while becoming a massively important part of the rotation. Grant spent just one year in the WAC and it didn’t end in postseason glory, but he did prove his worth in this league.
