NCAA Basketball: 12 teams with most pressure to win in 2023-24 season
4. Clemson Tigers
Things looked great for the Tigers midway through last season. They were in first place in the ACC and had the favorite for Conference Player of the Year in Hunter Tyson. Unfortunately, a late-season collapse caused them to miss the NCAA Tournament for the 4th time in five years.
Coach Brad Brownell has been around for 13 seasons with the program and has just three trips to the Big Dance to show for it, with just one making it to the Sweet 16 (2018). An argument can be made that the massive success of the football program in the past decade has allowed the mediocrity from the basketball side to fly under the radar.
But that’s not going to happen anymore and the pressure is on Clemson to at least make the Big Dance this time around. Big man PJ Hall and All-ACC guard Chase Hunter are back, joined by 15 ppg scoring transfer, Joe Girard. It’s a roster that is going to be one of the most offensively potent in all of NCAA Basketball next season.
So there’s going to be no reason why the Tigers can’t get it done. And with all of the key pieces being seniors, it’ll be an easy move to start over with both a brand new roster and possible a head coach.
