Small Forward/Wing

Starter – Davonte Gaines (25 mpg)

Davonte Gaines is the first transfer portal addition for Providence who will be looked upon to make an impact at the small forward/wing role. He joins the Friars after spending the past two seasons with George Mason and head coach Kim English. He’s certainly got the length and production to show he can operate on the wing and in the painted area when needed.

He’s a lengthy forward at 6-foot-7 who can knock down shots on the perimeter and rebound in bunches. He produced 8.9 ppg, 7.2 rpg and 1.4 apg on 37.3 percent shooting from 3-point range and 51.6 shooting from inside the arc across 53 appearances (52 starts) from 2021-23 as a member of the Patriots. He’ll be an option they can look to to make things happen given his veteran experience.

Bench – Justyn Fernandez/Corey Floyd (15 mpg)

Justyn Fernandez is another George Mason transfer joining the Friars lineup as he enters his sophomore season. He’s another wing presence who can fly around and make things happen while also knocking down shots from behind the arc. He averaged 4.1 ppg and 1.9 rpg on 33.8 percent shooting from 3-point land as a freshman with George Mason in 2022-23. He’ll look to continue his growth in Coach English’s system with the Friars in the Big East.
