NCAA Basketball: Preseason top 25 power rankings for 2023-24 season
12. Texas A&M Aggies
2022-23 season record: 25-10 (15-3 SEC)
Due to the Aggies consistently starting out slow in non-con play, they’ve flown under the radar in SEC play, where they nearly won last season. But a case can be made that they should be the favorites to win it this time around, returning eight of its top nine scorers. The only two rotation players gone are Andre Gordon and Dexter Dennis, a key starting guard.
But the top two scorers are back for Texas A&M, led by Wade Taylor. The All-SEC guard averaged 16.3 ppg and 3.9 apg and is a favorite for SEC Player of the Year. Tyrece Radford (13.3 ppg) is back as well, along with Hayden Hefner, Manny Obaseki, and Andersson Garcia.
The frontcourt is also set, with Julius Marble and Henry Coleman. Both averaged nearly double figures on offense and are quality interior defenders as well. Solomon Washington and UMass transfer Wildens Leveque add to the frontcourt depth.
If transfers Jace Carter (16.7 ppg and 7.0 rpg at Illinois-Chicago) and Eli Lawrence (12.2 ppg and 4.1 rpg at Middle Tennessee) can give Texas A&M any kind of offensive production, they’ll be one of the better two-way units in the country. They just have to avoid another slow start in order to validate its preseason ranking.
