NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing top 16 teams for 5-star Darryn Peterson
South Carolina Gamecocks
The experiment with former five-star and No. 1 overall prospect GG Jackson had more downs than it did ups. He led the team on offense and put up some nice stats but not only did the team not win but Jackson’s draft stock wasn’t helped. The roster isn’t much better on paper going forward so unless South Carolina starts getting better quickly, it’s hard to see them having much of a shot.
UCLA Bruins
Coach Mick Cronin has landed a couple of five-star prospects in his short time with the Bruins, including Amari Bailey last season. But could he be focusing on the international route now after landing four players (3 from overseas)? A guy as good as Peterson is too good to pass up but depending on how good Ilane Fibleuil and four-star commit Eric Feeney are, there could be a full backcourt by the time Peterson arrives.
Texas Longhorns
The Longhorns are set at the two-spot for the foreseeable future, as Oral Roberts transfer Max Abmas is starting this year and they have five-star commit Cam Scott coming in the 2024 class. If he ends up being a one-year guy too, Peterson can come in and have an immediate impact.
The big question is can Coach Rodney Terry be the guy to develop top prospects into surefire NBA prospects?
