Shooting Guard

Starter – Wooga Poplar

Wooga Poplar returns for the Hurricanes with a bigger role on the horizon with the departure of Jordan Miller and Isaiah Wong as offensive weapons. Poplar has the biggest room to be a breakout candidate after producing 8.4 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 1.5 apg and 1.1 spg across 37 games (36 starts) in 2022-23. He went off for 16 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals against Texas on 6-of-7 shooting from the field and a made 3-pointer back on March 26 in the NCAA Tournament.

He’s continued to develop quite nicely entering his junior season as he saw his 3-point shooting percentage increase from 21.4 percent in 2021-22 to 37.5 percent in 2022-23. He’s a 6-foot-5 guard with some bulk to his frame at 197 pounds to be a presence on the defensive end of the floor. He’ll be an option for them at the shooting guard with his prowess on the perimeter and attacking the basket.

Bench – Bensley Joseph

Bensley Joseph should see reserve minutes at the backup shooting guard when needed. He’s shown he’s capable of operating as a playmaker and perimeter threat. He knocked down a career-high 35 3-pointers across 37 appearances for the Hurricanes as a sophomore. He’s developed quite nicely over the past two seasons and seems ready to turn a corner alongside Poplar in the rotation this season.
