Power forward

Projected starter: Darrion Williams (25 mpg)

Another key pickup from the transfer portal for the team was Williams, a 6’6 combo forward from Nevada who was the Mountain West Rookie of the Year last season. He averaged 7.6 ppg, 7.3 rpg, and 2.7 apg while starting 30 games. Williams had 10 double-digit rebounding games, as well as 10 in the scoring department.

The appeal of Williams is his elite versatility on the defensive end, capable of guarding 1-4. And entering his sophomore year, there’s still plenty of offensive development for him going forward. We’ll see how this translates to the Big 12 but at the bare minimum, Williams should be one of the better glue guys in the country.

Projected reserve: KyeRon Lindsay (15 mpg)

Lindsay lasted just 10 games at Georgia as a freshman before transferring to Texas Tech a year ago, averaging 6.2 ppg and 5.2 rpg in eight starts. He went for 14 points and 10 rebounds against Miami (OH) as his best performance and the former four-star prospect showed signs of being a quality future player at the power conference level.

Lindsay committed to a different coaching staff and he couldn’t leave this offseason because as a two-time transfer, he would’ve likely had to sit out all of next season. We’ll have to see how he fits into the plans of Coach McCasland but he’s too talented not to be part of the rotation somehow.
