Center

Projected starter: Warren Washington (28 mpg)

Joining Cambridge to the Red Raiders from ASU is Washington, a 6th-year transfer playing at his 4th school. He was a legit starter with the Sun Devils last season, producing 9.2 ppg, 6.9 rpg, and nearly two blocks a game. That includes 21 points and eight rebounds against USC, along with 18 points and four blocks versus Utah.

Washington is a 7’0 center who’s one of the better interior defenders in college basketball. He’s not going to score a ton on a consistent basis but after losing both Batcho and Aimaq, Texas Tech was in desperate need of a big man that can play in the Big 12. And he’s a natural fit in the defensive scheme for Coach McCasland.

Projected reserves: Robert Jennings (7 mpg), Eemeli Yalaho (5 mpg)

There’s next to no size for Texas Tech Basketball outside of Washington so they’re automatically going to be smaller at times compared to other Big 12 teams. Look for Jennings to get some minutes at the five after some solid minutes as a freshman. He’s a good athlete and defender and although he’s listed at 6’7, plays bigger thanks to his physical nature.

The wildcard will be Yahalo, a 6’8 forward from Finland that was a late pickup for the program. He’s a stretch forward option that had plenty of interest from power conference schools and his skillset should give him a shot at getting minutes as a freshman.
