SEC Basketball: Ranking all 14 head coaches heading into 2023-24 season
By Caleb Hall
No. 11 Jerry Stackhouse, Vanderbilt Commodores
Jerry Stackhouse will enter his 5th year coaching the Vanderbilt Commodores and each season is looking better than the last for him. After starting last season 10-12 Vanderbilt turned it around and finished 12-2 to finish the regular season, while beating Kentucky in the SEC Tournament and making it to the quarterfinals of the NIT last year. Stackhouse has improved in nearly every season at Vanderbilt and even managed to finish in the top 4 last season in the standings. Compared to recent history that is very impressive for Vanderbilt and if they look to keep improving they could even go higher.
Stackhouse is building something better and better at Vandy year in and year out. Although they aren’t a national powerhouse or even a contender in their conference last year, they were competitive and beat actual good SEC teams last year. Stackhouse’s recruiting classes while not amazing, have been solid in the past 2 years as well.
Although Stackhouse might not be a household name coaching wise, he should be a name on the lookout next season to see if he can keep up with the trend of improving this once pitiful SEC team.
