Kansas Basketball 2023-24 season outlook

The Jayhawks will miss Jalen Wilson and Grady Dick, but with the addition of Hunter Dickinson, Nick Timberlake, and three highly-rated freshmen, they are well-positioned to challenge for a national championship again.

Dajuan Harris, Jr. and Kevin McCullar, Jr. are two of the best defenders in the country, and the presence of Dickinson down low will unlock an entirely new dimension to Bill Self’s offense. Many great players, from Wilt Chamberlin, to Raef Lafrentz, to Nick Collison, to Thomas Robinson have patrolled the post for Kansas, and Dickinson is poised to continue that tradition of excellence.

Kansas has the perfect blend of youth and experience. Having a starting lineup consisting almost entirely of seniors will allow them to bring the freshmen along slowly, and last year’s disappointing second round loss to Arkansas should provide all the motivation this team needs to make a deep run. A healthy Bill Self, who missed the end of last season after undergoing a heart procedure, will make a tremendous difference, too.

Playing arguably the nation’s most difficult schedule will have Kansas battle-tested by time March rolls around. Depth could be a problem as the season wears on, but if they can stay healthy, the Jayhawks will once again be one of the favorites to cut down the nets.
