2. Texas A&M Aggies

Last season: 25-10, 15-3 in the SEC

Head coach Buzz Williams took home the SEC Coach of the Year award this past season in leading the Aggies to a memorable season. They probably have the most returners of anybody in the conference with eight players back from last year’s 25-10 squad. The Aggies were a victory short of finishing as regular-season co-champions in conference action and they return with unfinished business after falling in the first round of last year’s NCAA Tournament.

Wade Taylor IV, Julius Marble, Tyrece Radford, Henry Coleman III and Manny Obaseki are the leading returning names while Jace Carter (UIC), Eli Lawrence (Middle Tennessee) and Wildens Leveque (UMass) ready to contribute out of the transfer portal for the upstart Aggies.

Taylor was solid at the point guard role as a sophomore, posting 16.3 ppg, 3.9 apg, 2.7 rpg and 1.7 spg on 35.6 percent shooting from deep across 35 appearances, 33 starts. He’s got more perimeter help in Lawrence and Carter that should allow his production to increase in his junior season. Radford will be their wildcard in the backcourt given his ability to score and rebound in bunches. He produced 13.3 ppg, 5.3 rpg and 2.4 apg across 35 appearances in 2022-23.

Marble has room to grow a ton in the frontcourt as he shows he can be a presence defensively. He’s shown he can be a presence in the paint scoring-wise and as a rebounder.

Coach Williams tends to have his guys playing scrappy and tough, no matter who’s in front of them. After posting 15 wins this past season, they’ll start as the No. 2 team in the preseason conference power rankings.
