2023-24 Season Outlook

The Indiana Hoosiers showed they could produce one-and-done prospects while still keeping their roster intact under head coach Mike Woodson. Coach Woodson and his coaching staff did a masterful job of blending in Jalen Hood-Schifino with Trayce Jackson-Davis and they turned it into a second-place finish in the Big Ten.

This season, things will look a lot different with 6-foot-8 forward Mackenzie Mgbako being the lone highly-coveted draft pick. They should ease him into things with a lot of veterans around him to lead.

The development of C.J. Gunn, Kaleb Banks and Malik Reneau will be paramount to their success as much as the additions of Kel’el Ware, Anthony Walker and Payton Sparks out of the transfer portal as well. Reneau showed he could hold his own off the bench. In Year 2, he’ll be looked upon to be even more of a presence in the frontcourt as a starter. Gunn and Banks will still hold reserve roles, but after showing they could hang in the conference, they’ll be looked upon to do a whole lot more off the bench this season.

They’ve got an experienced backcourt in Xavier Johnson and Trey Galloway, two guards who can handle and distribute the ball and limit their turnovers. If they can find a way to upset a few teams on their non-conference schedule and finish in the Top 5 in the Big Ten standings again, they should be an easy pick for an at-large bid in this year’s NCAA Tournament field.
