Maryland Basketball: 2023-24 season preview for the Terrapins
Key Reserves
Jahari Long, Guard
Long is another returning name who should see his role grow off the bench in 2023-24 with the Terrapins. He appeared in all 35 games this past season, averaging 2.1 ppg and 1.1 apg on 40 percent (10-of-25) shooting from behind the arc as a reserve. As a veteran guard, look for his role to grow with more opportunities on the horizon for him in the backcourt this season.
Chance Stephens, Guard
Stephens is a transfer portal addition who should boost their backcourt after knocking down 49 3-pointers in the WCC this past season with Loyola Marymount. He’s a second-year player who shot 37.4 percent from deep in his first year of college basketball. Look for him to find a role in the rotation as he finds his way on both ends of the floor.
Caelum Swanton-Rodger, Center/Forward
Swanton-Rodger represents the first name in their frontcourt returning who should find himself as the first big man off the bench. He’ll be looked upon to grow into a productive role after appearing in just 3.8 mpg across 21 contests in 2022-23. He’s a 6-foot-11 big man entering his sophomore season.
Noah Batchelor, Guard/Wing
Batchelor looks to continue his development in the Maryland rotation as he returns for his sophomore season.
Jamie Kaiser Jr., Guard
Kaiser is another member of the 2023 recruiting class who should find his way in the backcourt rotation given his knack for shooting the ball. He joins the squad after helping IMG Academy to a Geico High School National Championship. He chose the Terrapins over Indiana and Virginia as he looks to make a splash in the Big Ten with his ability to make winning plays.
Jahnathan Lamothe, Guard/Wing
Lamothe is the final member of the 2023 class who should make his presence felt with his ability to defend multiple spots, knock down shots on the perimeter and make plays for others. He averaged 20 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists and two steals during his career at St. Frances Academy (MD) with a senior season highlighted by 16 made 3-pointers (school record) during a 57-point outing against John Carroll. Look for him to compete for time this season.
Mady Traore, Center/Forward
Traore will look to find his way in the Terrapins rotation after a rocky start to his career with New Mexico State. He appeared in just seven games with the Aggies, posting 1.4 ppg across just a total of 51 minutes of action. At 6-foot-11, he’ll look to play a role in their frontcourt to give them some much-needed depth.
