2023-24 Season Outlook

The Terrapins have a ton of versatile weapons at their disposal in their rotation to use alongside Jahmir Young to be a successful group. While they aren’t the most efficient perimeter shooting group, they’ll be a stifling defense stalwart as is Coach Willard’s style. Maryland ranked 28th in college basketball this past season in scoring defense, allowing just 63.5 ppg.

Jahmir Young, Donta Scott and Julian Reese are strong building blocks for them to lean on as they look to continue to compete in the Big Ten. Reese will need to show his maturity in the frontcourt this season or their lack of depth could haunt them in the long run. He’s an improving asset for them in the frontcourt after seeing an increase in his overall production and usage as a sophomore.

They could find themselves playing small ball in spurts to offset their lack of quality production in the frontcourt once Reese and Scott are off the floor. It wouldn’t be surprising to see both of them play a ton of minutes in the early going as Coach Willard and his coaching staff look to find frontcourt depth with this year’s group.

Young will look to bring along DeShawn Harris-Smith, Jahnathan Lamothe and Jamie Kaiser Jr. as he looks to make the Terrapins a premier destination in College Park. They’ve got good potential to finish around the Top 5 once again in the Big Ten, though this season, a third-place finish wouldn’t be totally surprising. Look for Coach Willard to lead Maryland to another appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2023-24.
