UNLV Basketball 2023-24 schedule outlook

Now admittedly, UNLV has a bit tougher schedule laid out ahead of them. Yet, they proved big games not to be a problem to them just a season ago at times, and although this team is a little different, that same mindset can be applied here.

Luckily, the Rebels open up the season with three manageable games with Southern and Stetson at home before a road game at Pepperdine. These first few games can let the new team get their bearings around them and find some rhythm early and in a more comfortable setting. The they head to the Sunshine Slam tournament where they’re slighted to face Florida State, their first power 6 opponent in what definitely can be a manageable opponent which if they win will lead to game versus Richmond or a first true big test in Colorado.

Following the tournament, UNLV returns home for a game against a respectable mid-major opponent in Akron, before a long road stretch for Dayton, Loyola Marymount, Creighton, and Saint Mary’s. This stretch of five games here is going to decide where the team heads after, ideally, you’d want to see the Rebels pick up two or three wins here maybe stealing a win against a Creighton or Saint Mary’s in a perfect world. If they come out in a scenario like that, they can win their last two easier home non-conference matchups and head into Mountain West play with a positive outlook with potentially a 9-3 record or better.

As for conference play following all of that, it would be great to see the Rebels at least hit the halfway mark meaning beat the teams they should in conference such as Air Force, Fresno State, Wyoming and the like. It would be great to see some wins against maybe New Mexico, or Nevada and even San Diego State.

Ideally, if they can finish above .500 with some big wins and a consistent feel, this season should be considered a great start for an exciting future.
