Arkansas Basketball: 2023-24 season preview for the Razorbacks
2023-24 Season Outlook
The Razorbacks are back and after a bit of retooling, they should be ready to compete at a higher level this upcoming season. Last year’s group underachieved a ton after finishing 8-10 during the regular season conference slate. They peaked at the right time heading into March though as evidenced by their upset of the Kansas Jayhawks in their quest to an appearance in the Sweet 16.
This year’s team possesses a lot more depth-potential and veteran experience than last year’s group. It will be interesting to see how well the likes of El Ellis, Khalif Battle, Tramon Mark and Davonte Davis gel in the backcourt. If they can stay connected and communicate on both ends of the floor effectively, this Razorbacks group holds a ton of potential for success if they can peak at the right time again.
Coach Musselman and his coaching staff will have their fair share of adversity to deal with as will the newcomers out of the transfer portal in adjusting to high-major conference basketball. Ellis and Mark shouldn’t have any difficulty adjusting, but Battle will need to show he can hang after building his resume in the Atlantic 10.
The frontcourt will probably be Arkansas’ biggest asset led by Trevon Brazile, Makhi Mitchell and Chandler Lawson. They gave fans a glimpse of how they can hold their own in holding the Boilermakers at bay in their exhibition victory. They’ll need to show a ton of carry-over into the upcoming season with tip-off just a few days away.
The Razorbacks should be a competitive bunch and one of a few teams from the SEC that should earn at the very least at-large bids in this year’s NCAA Tournament. After finishing in a tie for ninth in the standing this past season, look for them to finish fourth with potential as a 3-4 seed in this year’s field of 68 teams.
