Big Ten Basketball: Ranking all 14 head coaches heading into 2023-24 season
By Caleb Hall
No. 7: Chris Holtmann, Ohio State
Chris Holtmann has been making some noise in recent years, but again, as is with most BIG Ten coaches, he has struggled with post season success. Holtman was an assistant for several different schools until he got the head coaching job at Gardner-Webb, then he coached Butler for 3 years, and Ohio State since the 2017-18 season. At Butler, Holtmann made the tourney all 3 seasons, and made the sweet 16 in his final year there. At Ohio State Holtmann has had 20+ wins in all his seasons there, except last season where the Buckeyes went 16-19.
Holtmann however, has not led the Buckeyes out of the first weekend of the tournament, and has been disappointing when it comes to postseason success. Holtman’s regular season success is impressive though, with having 5 straight 20 win seasons.
If Holtmann can improve his winnings in the postseason then he could launch himself and Ohio State higher onto this list. Until then Holtmann will just be another good coach who struggles in the postseason in the Big Ten conference.
