NCAA Basketball: Duke, Michigan State fall in latest top 25 power ranking

9. Creighton (2-0)
While a few of their Big East rivals may have outshined them last season, Creighton still advanced to the Elite Eight with one of the best starting five’s in the nation. Two of those starters are gone, but the Bluejays still boast a very talented lineup, featuring the returns of frontcourt legends in Ryan Kalkbrenner and Baylor Scheierman. How exactly would new pieces like Steven Ashworth factor into this lineup?
Game one was not a real test for the Bluejays, who won an easy 105-54 decision against Florida A&M. Fellow returning starter Trey Alexander had 20 point and 5 assists as the Bluejays shot well from all over the court. Saturday’s second game of the season was a closer contest but still an easy performance, with Creighton beating North Dakota State 89-60. Alexander (21 points) was the leading scorer again while Scheierman added 17 points.
Two dynamic offensive performances have many excited at Creighton, though there’s not much we can say from watching these two games. This new starting five plays well together, but they certainly haven’t been tested as much as they will be during Big East play. For now, Greg McDermott and his Bluejays turn their attention towards Iowa this upcoming Tuesday, the first significant competition of the year.
