NCAA Basketball: Kentucky, Arkansas fall in latest top 25 power ranking

4. Connecticut (3-0)
No matter what happens this season, the Huskies will hang their heads high after last season’s national title, though this year’s team isn’t satisfied with just that single taste of success. Connecticut’s team looks just as dangerous this season and has blown out their first three opponents this year. Obviously, the opposition will significantly increase in the weeks and months ahead, but it’s so far, so good for the Huskies through week two.
The lone test of this past week was a third straight blowout, with UConn earning an 87-53 win over Mississippi Valley State. While the Huskies didn’t quite cover what was a monster spread, they certainly did more than enough in the performance. All five starters scored in double figures led by Cam Spencer’s 25-point outpouring, including 7 of 11 from outside the arc.
Many expected another impressive season out of the Huskies, especially with sophomores Alex Karaban and Donovan Clingan both looking like potential breakout candidates. They’ll miss Stephon Castle, who will miss several weeks with an injury he suffered against the Delta Devils. While these opening weeks have been impressive, clearly the Huskies haven’t been tested at all, with three very subpar opponents. That changes somewhat on Sunday and Monday, as they’ll play against Indiana and then either Texas or Louisville as part of the Empire Classic.
