NCAA Basketball: Purdue, Duke, fall in latest top 25 power ranking

13. BYU (7-0)
It’s a new season and a new era at BYU and these Cougars seem to be responding accordingly. Their opening week win over San Diego State continues to look great and was followed up with a pair of impressive wins at the Vegas Showdown. Their first year in the Big 12 finds them off to an unbeaten start that continued this week.
The only game on BYU’s slate this past week was a matchup with Fresno State in Salt Lake City and things did not go the Bulldogs’ way. The Cougars continued their undefeated season with an 85-56 win, the latest complete performance for this program. Jaxson Robinson led the team with 24 points off the bench while Spencer Johnson put up 22 points as well.
Let’s be fair, the schedule BYU has played isn’t exactly among the most impressive in the nation but being unbeaten at this point in the season is no fluke. The Cougars have looked fantastic at times and are significantly outperforming their preseason expectations. BYU has handled their business on both sides of the ball. The rest of the nonconference schedule involves very winnable home games and a true road test at Utah this upcoming Saturday, their biggest hurdle to getting to New Year’s with an unblemished record.
