St. Joe’s Hawks

The Hawks entered the season with plenty of optimism after returning all of its core guards from last year. But after losing at home to Texas A&M Commerce in the second week of the season, it figured to be another down year. But after showing signs of hope against Kentucky, St. Joe’s finally broke through by beating Villanova, 78-65.

The A-10 program also took care of business against both Sacred Heart and Temple to move to 6-2 on the season. That Commerce setback will be costly but if nothing else, St. Joe’s is starting to show that its talent can win the games that matter. They have a big matchup at home against Princeton on Sunday, who is still unbeaten on the year.

Ole Miss Rebels

It’s a shock that the Rebels are 7-0 since they were seconds from losing to both Detroit Mercy and Sam Houston State earlier in the season. But this past week, the SEC program won at home against both NC State and Memphis.

The victory over the Tigers is the more likely to stand as a good victory but both wins were needed to establish Ole Miss as a genuine good team in the SEC. This week shouldn’t be too difficult overall with a home game against Mount St. Mary’s, combined with a matchup with UCF on the road.
