4. Alabama (21-4)
You can look far and wide throughout college basketball but you won’t find a team that can produce offense quite like this Alabama squad. The Crimson Tide have put up 100 points half a dozen times and continue to be one of the nation’s most efficient offenses, with great efforts in wins over Illinois, Houston, Kentucky, and several other programs.
That emphasis continued on Tuesday with a 103-80 win at Texas, the second time already in league play that the Crimson Tide topped the century mark on the road. Jarin Stevenson led the scoring with 22 points as Alabama shot 62% from the field. Unfortunately things didn’t quite go their way in the massive weekend matchup against #1 Auburn, falling 94-85 at home. Mark Sears had 18 points while Grant Nelson added a 12-point, 12-rebound effort, though it just wasn’t the day for the Crimson Tide.
Alabama had their best shooting performance of the season against the Longhorns but couldn’t get enough shots to fall against rival Auburn over the weekend. Regardless, this team is still in an awesome slot right now and will be a trendy pick to return to the Final Four like last season. The final weeks of the season remain brutal for the Crimson Tide, who’ll next week head to Missouri before a rematch against Kentucky in Tuscaloosa.
