ACC Basketball: Virginia rise, Florida State and Clemson falls in latest power ranking
5. Wake Forest Demon Deacons - 14-7 (6-4)
Wake Forest had plenty of momentum not too long ago, especially once the news hit that Gonzaga transfer Efton Reid was eligible to play to give them needed frontcourt depth. They had a nine-game win streak, including home wins over Miami and Virginia Tech.
Since then, the Deacons have gone 3-4, including a road loss at Florida State. They do have a 19-point win over Virginia, which looks very good now. The recent result was a 99-70 victory over Syracuse, led by 24 points from Hunter Sallis, along with 21 from Kevin Miller and 13 points and 12 rebounds from Cameron Hildreth.
Wake Forest only has a win over Florida in the non-con, and a fairly mediocre resume overall. What helps is that they don’t have any bad losses and decent metrics. One thing they need to do is start winning away from home, having lost the last four true road games.
That fact will be tested next, taking on Georgia Tech. They’ve shown they can beat good teams so the Deacons will need to be careful. After that is NC State at home, one of the key ACC battles of the week.
