Bracketology 2024: Green Bay and Richmond among surprise title contenders
Quinnipiac Bobcats 19-5, 11-2
Although not outperforming expectations as much as some other schools on this list, the Quinnipiac Bobcats were picked to finish 5th in the MAAC and are now two games ahead of the field and are 19-5 with an 11-2 record in league play. Even though head coach Tom Pecora is in his first year, the former head man at Hofstra and Fordham has been with the Bobcats since 2017.
There’s still quite a bit of basketball to be played in the MAAC including bouts with the closest teams to them, Fairfield, Marist and Niagara the Bobcats are aiming for their second regular season title and perhaps their first trip to the NCAA Tournament at the Division I level.
The Bobcats are led by senior Matt Balanc who averages over 18 points per game and grabs 4.6 rebounds. In the frontcourt, the dynamic duo of Amani Tice and Paul Otieno combine for 23.8 points and 13.9 boards. There isn’t a ton that sticks out when you look at the Bobcats, but they play fast and force their opponents to beat them from inside the arc because they shoot and defend the three at the same clip, but opponents make just 48.7% of their shots in two-point range.
