10. Josh Schertz (Saint Louis)

Very few people knew Schertz’s name just half a decade ago but he certainly changed that with his run at Indiana State. The fact of the matter is that Schertz is a rising name in coaching circles who showed his skill at the D2 level for many years before achieving success at D1 as well. Jumping to Saint Louis is an interesting choice, but one that’ll certainly benefit Schertz both monetarily and in opportunity.

The earliest days of his career saw Schertz as an assistant at a few different schools, including a decent run at High Point in the Big South. He jumped back down to D2 to start his head coaching career, spending thirteen seasons at Lincoln Memorial. His more than a decade in Tennessee included a slew of D2 Tourney appearances, including three Final Fours. Indiana State hired him in 2021 and he’s coming off one of the best seasons in the program’s history, winning 32 games and making the title game of the NIT.

It’s a shame that Schertz and that Sycamores squad wasn’t invited to the NCAA Tournament and it’s a greater shame to see that team broken up and not getting another shot next year. However, Indiana State’s loss becomes Saint Louis’s gain, as Schertz looks to build new success with a Billikens program that has underachieved in recent years. He has already added a few familiar pieces from Indiana State, but past results have shown us to have confidence that Schertz will find talent and put them in position for success.
