SWAC Basketball: Grambling State leads final regular-season power rankings
9. Alabama State SWAC: 7-9 (Last Week: 9) (Last Weekend's Record: 0-1) (Upcoming Games: 3/7 vs SU 3/9 vs GSU)
The Hornets have had such a frustrating season. They were fighting for first place at mid-season. Now they are fighting for their postseason lives. The Hornets lost their third straight game, this time against rival Alabama A&M. Isaiah Range led the way with 17 points, including 5 three-pointers. Bama State closes out their season with two games at home. If they want to extend their season and play in the SWAC tournament they must win both games. They can do so but I don't think they will.
8. University of Arkansas Pine Bluff SWAC: 8-8 (Last Week: 9) (Last Weekend's Record: 1-0) (Upcoming Games: 3/7 @JSU 3/9 @AlcSU)
UAPB picked up an important victory over MVSU. Now when you look at where the Delta Devils sit in the standings the win doesn't mean much. But the 78-69 victory keeps the Golden Lions in the mix for the 8th and final tournament spot. Rashad Williams led the way with 21 points. The Golden Lions need wins to secure their spot. Games at Jackson State and at Alcorn State aren't easy places to win. Offensively UAPB is more than capable of getting it done. But are they consistent enough to do it? I think they split the two games and sneak into the tournament.
7. Alabama A&M SWAC: 8-8 (Last Week: 8) (Last Weekend's Record: 1-0) (Upcoming Games: 3/7 vs GSU 3/9 vs SU)
The Bulldogs have had an up-and-down season and that is why they are in a battle for their tournament lives. Getting a rivalry win over Bama State is a great first start on the road to the SWAC tournament. Cameron Tucker scored 12 points in the win. To feel safe I believe AAMU needs to win out and this team playing at home can make that happen, Will they? I say no, they'll finish 1-1 giving them a 9-9 conference record. And most importantly the number 7 seed.
