Former Valpo Coach Homer Drew and Wife Diagnosed With Cancer

The Drew family and Valparaiso basketball go hand-in-hand. Homer Drew was the head coach for 18 seasons, one which included a magical NCAA Tournament upset that most college basketball fans will never forget.

Bryce Drew, who made the shot in that tournament game, took over for his dad as head coach when he retired several months ago.

Unfortunately, the Drew and Valpo family got some bad news today as both Homer and his wife Janet have both been diagnosed with some form of cancer.

Having lost a loved one myself to cancer, it’s always terrible to hear a story like this.

As it states in the story, the form of cancer is unknown at this point, but it does sound like Homer’s has been caught in the early stages.

I couldn’t imagine what it’s like for both Bryce and Scott Drew, who is the head coach for Baylor. Like Gary Parrish said in his article, having one is bad enough. But two? Man, it’s just sad to hear.

Hopefully both of theirs have been caught early enough to treat though, and I know that they’ll have plenty of support during this battle.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Drew family and hope they win this fight against this terrible disease.
