JaMychal Green Back For Alabama, Tony Mitchell Won’t Return This Season

Well, there’s good news and bad news today concerning the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The good news is that leading scorer and rebounder JaMychal Green returned from suspension and practiced with the team today.

Green is arguably the team’s most valuable player, and it’s absolutely crucial that they get him back on the floor if they want to have a shot at an NCAA tournament berth in March. However, according to the ESPN story above, Green will not play at Arkansas this Thursday.

Now, the bad news is that head coach Anthony Grant confirmed that their second leading scorer and rebounder, Tony Mitchell, will remain suspended for the rest of the season.

Don’t get me wrong. Having Green back should provide a huge spark to this team, and they should be able to keep some momentum going after knocking off Tennessee on Saturday. But having Mitchell back would have been even better.

Alabama currently sits at 17-9 overall and 6-6 in SEC play. Their upcoming schedule provides plenty of opportunity given the opponents.

A trip to Arkansas doesn’t look as troubling after Florida went in and hammered the Razorbacks by 30. Mississippi State is on the decline. Auburn is getting better but still not there. And who knows what to expect with Ole Miss.

With Green back, as up and down as things have been, the Alabama could still sneak in to the Big Dance.
