2015 NBA Summer League: Frank Kaminsky is the Perfect Fit for the Charlotte Hornets

People love to talk about how Justise Winslow dropped to the Miami Heat at pick No.10 which is a steal in its own right.

But how fortunate were the Charlotte Hornets to have Wisconsin stud big man Frank Kaminsky be available to them at No. 9?

The New York Knicks at No.4 would have been a viable destination for “Frank the Tank”.

But Kaminsky going to the Charlotte Hornets is like paradise on earth for Michael Jordan, Steve Clifford and the rest of the Hornets’ brass.

He is the perfect fit to offset what the Hornets are bringing in the post with veteran center Al Jefferson.

Kaminsky has the opportunity to be the quintessential stretch power forward in the NBA after honing his skills with Bo Ryan at Wisconsin.

His skillset fits perfectly with what the Hornets are going to need and he is showing off his repertoire at the Orlando Summer League as we speak.

Kaminsky’s ability to play in “pick and rolls” and “pick and pop” situations is huge when you have someone like Al Jefferson as a down low presence.

Kaminsky is going to be able to play the high post and space the floor because he can knock shots down from as deep as the three-point arc.

What he has continually shown in the Orlando Summer League, much like in his days at Wisconsin, is the ability to put the ball on the floor and get to the rim when defenders close out at him on the perimeter.

Charlotte selecting Frank Kaminsky lets you know that maybe Michael Jordan and Steve Clifford have finally figured out a direction for the team.

When you consider that Clifford comes from the Gregg Popovich coaching tree, you can envision Frank Kaminsky playing a role in the Hornets’ offense that is similar to Tim Duncan’s in San Antonio.

Tim Duncan mixes in high post skills with the ability to do damage in the block. Kaminsky has that same capability.

The thing that Frank Kaminsky is going to need to do going forward in his career is gain strength for those occasions where he needs to get dirty and bang in the block.

But as of right now he is showing that he can have an immediate impact with the Charlotte Hornets and will be a perfect fit with the personnel that is currently there.

  • When you are a 7-foot player with the ability to move as fluidly as Kaminsky does, and shoot with the type of range he has, you have superstar potential.Charlotte has been in need of a superstar player for a long time. Regardless of whether they were called the Bobcats or the Hornets like they currently are right now, the franchise has been devoid of a player that has Hall of Fame potential.

This is not to say that Frank Kaminsky is that guy, but he has the skill and talent to be a transcendent player.

Only time will tell, but he is in the right place at the right time, and the one thing we do know for a fact in spite of some of the personnel moves in the past, Michael Jordan wants to win.

Frank Kaminsky might be the best draft pick Michael Jordan has been a part of. It would be nice to see Jordan look like a genius this time around.
