Report: Jim Calhoun Planning To Return Against Pittsburgh
By Blake Lovell
There’s some positive news this morning concerning the return of UConn head coach Jim Calhoun, who is set to undergo back surgery on Monday.
According to this ESPN report by Andy Katz, the plan is for Calhoun to return next Saturday against Pittsburgh, which will be UConn’s final game of the regular season.
Obviously, the return plan is dependent on how the back surgery goes for Calhoun on Monday.
Calhoun has been battling health issues for a while now, and I think we’d all agree that it would be great to see him return to the sidelines at full strength.
This would be fantastic news for the Huskies as well, who are in desperate need of picking up a few wins to try and make their case for an NCAA tournament spot even stronger.
They have a great opportunity at that tonight when they host second-ranked Syracuse. It’s a tremendous opportunity for UConn and they have to capitalize on that (our predictions here, and yes, I picked UConn). If they can win this one, then there are two winnable games remaining against Providence and Pittsburgh.
Sure, this team has had its struggles this season. But getting their leader back would be a huge step in the right direction.
If they can win at least two of their final three regular season games, it would sure make Calhoun’s job a lot easier heading into the Big East tournament in a few weeks.
