The 1983-84 season for Kentucky was the penultimate season for Kentucky legend Joe B. Hall, and Senior Center Melvin Turpin was one of the best players for the Wildcats, sharing the spotlight with other Big Blue greats like Kenny Walker and Sam Bowie.

Turpin averaged 15.2 points per game that season as the Wildcats made the Elite Eight, but perhaps his most memorable performance of the season was scoring 42 points in a second round SEC Tournament game against the Georgia Bulldogs.

Not only did Turpin score the most points in SEC Tournament history, but he also managed to earn the record with most single-game field goal attempts in the SEC Tournament, shooting 22 times.

The Wildcats wound up beating the Bulldogs 92-79 and proceeding to beat Auburn in the SEC championship game.
