Wake Forest arrived in Greensboro as the #1 seed in the ACC Tournament. They were led by Randolph Childress and Tim Duncan. They rolled Duke in their first game and beat Virginia to reach the finals against the 3rd seed, North Carolina.
Jerry Stackhouse and Rasheed Wallace led the Tar Heels as the teams battled into overtime. Then, with 4.6 seconds left, Randolph Childress hit a 10-ft jumper to win the game and give the Demon Deacons their first title since 1962.
Childress broke the ACC Tournament scoring record and was named Tournament MVP.
