He also won the Wooden Award for his efforts in the 1984-85 season at St. John’s before going into the NBA as the seventh overall pick of the 1985 NBA Draft and having a Hall of Fame career.
He averaged 19.5 points per contest while at St. John’s while shooting 55.0% from the field.
Before his back issues became too debilitating for him to maintain his All-Star status in the NBA, he was a five-time NBA All-Star and one of the most prolific scorers in the league. He averaged at least 25 points per game or better from the 1988-89 season to 1992-93 season.
He also played on the original “Dream Team” winning the Gold Medal in the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain.
Chris Mullin had a sweet left-handed jumper and some of the quickest defensive hands in the business when he was at his peak in the NBA.
“Mully” just might be the leading scorer for this team and take the most shots also.
Plus if need be he could move to the two-guard depending on matchups.
Now he is going to attempt to establish his coaching career at his alma mater St. John’s after jumping ship at the right time from the Sacramento Kings’ front office.
It is going to be interesting to see what kind of style he is going to bring to the Red Storm.
You would think that Mullin is going to be an offensive minded coach that will have his team play uptempo, share the ball, and play strong defense.
