Bracketology: Takeaways from the NCAA Tournament top 16
The SEC and the Big East snag two each
Although the overall nature of this occurring was not a big deal, the seeding showed that the committee has a high opinion of both the SEC and the Big East. The clear choice as the top one seed was Villanova of the Big East and that came to fruition, but Butler as a top four seed was a bit surprising.

Butler has seven wins over the RPI top-50 and a great record against their top-level competition. With this, once again the committee showed their fascination with strength of schedule, as Butler’s is among the best in the country. It was not a surprise for Butler to be placed in the top 16, although ranking 13th overall is higher than expected.
As for the SEC, Florida is yet another instance of SOS making a major impact. The Gators played one of the most rigorous non-conference schedules in the country, which is something not often found with a major conference team. Florida is, however, just 4-5 against the RPI top-50. Yet, although their record there is under .500, the team landed as a three seed on Saturday.
Their SEC counterpart Kentucky also had a good day landing on the three line. The Wildcats have a similar record against the RPI top-50 at 5-5, but their eye test still proves them to be a top team in the country and well-deserving of being in the top 16.

On the whole, it was very interesting to see where the committee ranked the top 16 teams as of this morning, and it told us a decent amount about what to expect in a month from now.
