American Athletic Conference

Lead-Pipe Lock: Cincinnati

Some Perspiration: SMU

Better Double-Up on the Deodorant: None.

SMU Mustangs, 22-4 (12-1): After knocking off Cincinnati over the last week, SMU is almost entering the lock area. One of the hottest teams in the entire country, the Mustangs were a six seed in my most recent bracket looking to move up. There aren’t many quality wins on the resume, which hurts them, but their lack of losses is very impressive. SMU is in great shape for the tourney, and the AAC is almost a guaranteed two-bid league, although if there is any conference with a good chance for the a bid stealer, it is the AAC.

Quality wins: vs. TCU, vs. Cincinnati

Bad losses: @ Boise State

Missed opportunities: @ USC, vs. Michigan, @ Cincinnati

Next up: vs. Tulane (2/15), @ Houston (2/18)
