1. Norfolk State over Missouri – 2012

The Tigers were 30-4 on the season and ranked No. 2 in the AP Poll. The Spartans were 25-8 entering the game and had never played in the NCAA Tournament before.

Norfolk State had to close the game out late, taking the lead with 34 seconds left on a three-point play that would put them ahead before Missouri tied it up. Both teams played well statistically, but the Spartans shot 52.6 percent from three-point range and helped them secure the biggest upset in tournament history.

According to BPI, the Spartans had only a 1.0 percent chance of getting the upset, which was the third lowest in the first round that year. The team’s BPI was also the third lowest of any team in the tournament. The Tigers were a 21.5 point favorite to win the game.
