Pac-12 Basketball: Who is the top 2017 recruit for every team?
By Bryan Mauro
Oregon State
The Beavers had a miserable year last year. Mired by injury and being overwhelmed by the talent on the opposite end of the floor, Oregon State managed to be one of the worst teams in the entire country last year, not just the Power 6 conferences. Head Coach Wayne Tinkle has his son Tres and Gary Payton Jr. to thank for their surprise NCAA Tournament run two years ago. Another year like last year in Corvallis and coach Tinkle may be looking for work.
Ethan Thompson- Ethan loves to shoot threes, and he makes a lot of them. He also always seems to be in the right place at the right time on the defensive end of the floor and is a good rebounder for a kid his size. With Ethan in the lineup as a sharp shooter, Oregon State should be able to spread the floor and run pick and rolls or screens for Ethan to get open and do what he does best. Hopefully, Ethans ability will be enough for the Beavers to win a few more games.
Stanford
Stanford is a trendy pick by many to make the NCAA Tournament this year. It has been awhile for the Cardinal, as they have been finishing in the bottom tier of teams in the Pac-12 for the last handful of years. If Stanford does make it back to the Dance this freshman will probably have a lot to do with the turnaround.
Kezie Okpala- The Southern California native, Okpala, can really score. He has good post moves and can handle the ball and get to the rim. He is a decent shooter, but is best when he is driving the basket and finishing at the rim. Kezie leaves a little to be desired on the defensive side of the ball as often times his feet look like they are stuck in concrete and players are able to drive right past him. With a little coaching and adjustment to the college game, he will no doubt be a serviceable defender with an outstanding offensive game. He should contribute at Stanford right away.
